Re: Canon FF EOS RP+R full-live-view vs Sony FF blackout-view "mirrorless"

Dunno what Sony did to you Bozo, but maybe to sort this out you should seek for help outside this forum. I mean specialised help.

To make things clear:

- You're the only one here who believes that the R/RP are blackout-free. There is (obviously) a blackout on these cameras, but Canon simply chose to freeze the EVF display instead of displaying a black frame. If anything, Canon's freeze frames are longer than Sony's because their sensors have a longer readout time.

- You're also the only one believing that the R/RP offers true Expsim Live View (or whatever it is that you call it) while other mirrorless cameras do not. It is a trivial fact that any mirrorless offers a WYSIWYG view of the picture to be taken.

Nevermind, you must be right. The A7iii is terrible, everyone is dumping it and buying the RP....

  • i didn’t say that; but you are.
  • i'm merely pointing out those dumping A7III in high volumes, will be buying some new FF alternative, which only the RP is in same "basic" level (pricier R is more advanced)

folks are thus dumping blackout-view (half-live) FF "Mirrorless" ILCs = Sony Alphas

blackout view? What are you talking about? Have you ever used an A7iii?

  • if you know what a Sony A7III looks like with EVF with "native" OEM FE Lens shooting stills images (any reviewer unafraid to show it): you'll SEE Blackouts (annoying as any old film camera)
  • A7III suffers BLACKOUTS regardless of electronic shutter or mechanical shutter (Sony users using SONY FE OEM native "mirrorless" lenses! No escape with non-Sony lenses either.)
  • if you are BLIND to it; it's on you.
  • ditto: Sony A9 suffers, especially, BLACKOUTS awful with mechanical shutter; BLACKOUTS are normal even with electronic ROLLING shutter, too. Blackouts are ELIMINATED only with ROLLING electronic shutter provided one cranks up EVF to double refresh frame rate, which wreaks havoc on AF (worse, if not using widest apertures)
  • zero Sony users have been able to overcome SONY BLACKOUT-VIEW with something as BASIC as mechanical shutter stills shooting (film SLR VF blackout syndrome)
  • it's CLEAR that removing MIRROR ("mirrorless") has NOTHING (zero!) to do with addressing "live-view" blackouts of MECHANICAL SHUTTERS! (Sony A9, never mind A7III!)
  • blackout-view (VF) Sony FF A7III MILC = old film SLRs, old dSLRs, old dSLTs, etc

and opting to get "full-live-view" (blackout-free) FF ILCs = Canon EOS RP + EOS R

  • ExpSIM Live-View + ExpSIM Live-View AF (pioneered on EOS dSLRs)

Canon alone, in addressing "live-view" blackouts of MECHANICAL SHUTTER in digital cameras:

1st on EOS ExpSIM OVF+Live-View AF ILC dSLR: EOS 1DXMkII

  1. Full-Live-View (Live-PREVIEW + Live-REVIEW) = Lag-Free Blackout-Free (LCD)
  2. FF w/OVF zero-lag "now vision" capabilities
  3. Mechanical Shutter High Continuous Stills Shooting mode!
  4. w/older, slower-generation RAW CR2 (14-bit uncompressed RAW)
  5. Double Batteries
  6. Double DiG!C processors
  7. OEM ExpSIM Live-View AF EF Lenses !!!
  8. Fixed Touchscreen-AF
  9. Since 2016

1st on EOS ExpSIM Full-Live-View AF ILC: EOS R

  1. Full-Live-View (Live-PREVIEW + Live-REVIEW) = Lag-Free Blackout-Free (EVF+LCD)
  2. FF (but, no OVF capabilities)
  3. Mechanical Shutter High Continuous Stills Shooting mode!
  4. w/newer, faster-generation RAW CR3 (14-bit uncompressed RAW)
  5. Single "old" Batteries
  6. Single DiG!C processors
  7. OEM ExpSIM Live-View AF RF Lenses !!!
  8. Vari-Angle Swivel-Touchscreen-AF
  9. Since 2018

Not OTHERS! (too bad!) = Mechanical Shutter Blackout-view only!

  • All Sony Alphas: dSLRs, dSLTs, MILCs: A7#, A7R#, A7S#, A9, A6###, etc
  • All Nikons: dSLRs + MILCs: D#, D###, D####, Z#
  • Both Panasonic FF MILCs: S1R/S1
  • All m43 milcs
  • older film SLRs
  • EXCEPT: cameras with optical tunnels, or external optical VF (Rangefinders)
  • EXCEPT: cameras with NO VF. (no view cameras)

SINCE 2016 ...

Been waiting for update of 5D (Mark V?) to ADD EOS R EVF to EOS 1DXMkII

1st on EOS ExpSIM Full-Live-View AF ILC dSLR: EOS 5D

  1. Full-Live-View (Live-PREVIEW + Live-REVIEW) = Lag-Free Blackout-Free (EVF+LCD)
  2. FF w/OVF zero-lag "now vision" capabilities (always available as option)
  3. Mechanical Shutter High Continuous Stills Shooting mode = Full-LV
  4. w/newer, faster-generation RAW CR3 (14-bit uncompressed RAW)
  5. Double "old" 1DXMkII or R Batteries
  6. Double DiG!C processors
  7. OEM ExpSIM Live-View AF EF Lenses !!!
  8. (Modular?) Vari-Angle Swivel-Touchscreen-AF
  9. Next up: 2019?/2020?

Others:

  • if you're okay with blackout-view (half-way almost-live-view almost-autofocus cameras) ... there's "mirrorless-only-mode" ILCs like Sonys
  • (or switch to videofeed frame electronic shutter "still frame capture" modes to avoid "electronic preview" blackouts) ... iff double-refresh EVF "preview-only" is available.
  • but no realtime "Live-REVIEW" is available (never: any shutter mode; any EVF mode); OEM mirrorless-only lenses or not
