Re: Problem with nx1000 mode dial
Recently purchased 2 used nx1000 bodies to try out. They were both like new and cost under $100. When I ran a first test on them, I ran into the same oversensitive top mode selector dial talked about on this thread.
Having retired from the NISSAN tech center where I spent my years testing, troubleshooting and repairing automotive navigation and rear camera systems before they went into production, I have a gift for searching for technical glitches in electro-mechanical gadgets.
After reading the current solutions provided in this thread, I thought I would try something different than squirting fluids into the area under the dial. What I tried worked on both bodies and continues to work. I could be way off here, but my indications are in good standing.
Try the following if you want. I turned off the camera, removed the lens, locked on the body cap, got a good grip on the body and rotated the mode dial back and forth and around clockwise and counter clockwise continuously for about 2-3 minutes. I thought I'd wear them out. I put the lens back on, turned them on and MAGIC! They both worked.
This reminded me of two similar issues I have run into in the past. First, music CDs used to have an invisible manufacturing coating on them, that if not removed, wouldn't play. Second, contacts in electrical components can get corroded by just damp air or in high humidity parts of the world (Asia?) where these cameras are manufactured. The giveaway for me was the ever so slight corrosion, hardly visible, around the small screw heads holding the body together. If it's on the outside, it's probably on the inside.
So, the CDC contact spray for cleaning electronic contacts would also work, perhaps by itself or in addition to just wearing it off or scrubbing it off as I did. It works.
Thanks,
Good luck folks!
