Infra red photography and photochromic lenses.

I created an image of my wife at the weekend. She chooses to wear photochromic spectacles, ('reactolite' type which darken in sunlight). These glasses really annoy me because I never get to see her eyes in any image of her created with my normal camera, unless she takes them off.

When I created the image of her this time, I used my camera which has been converted to full spectrum infra red, (I just add an infrared filter to the lens). Imagine my surprise when I did the colour channel swap, her eyes are visible while wearing her glasses! Would anyone be able to explain to me why this happens?
