Re: Studying the 8-16mm lens on the SD Quttro H
Here's a focus bracket series, made at 3 ft, half-way between 3 ft and the inifinty mark, just shy of the infinity mark, right on the infinity mark, just past the infinity mark, about quarter of the way between the infinity mark to the infinity symbol, and about half way from the infinity mark to the infinity symbol:

Here is a couple of the photos from that series (opened in Preview, adjusted and sharpened slightly, and compressed a little):
F8 with focus set to 3 ft
F11 with focus set half past the infinity mark.
If you can't tell the difference between these two shots, then I guess the focus on the 8-16 really could just be left set on the infinity mark and left there.
Here's a full-size shot with the focus set right on the infinity mark:
F8 with focus set right on the infinity mark
. . . and here's the largest of the photos (in MB):

Again, these are from the OOC jpegs right off the memory card. The first two I included as photos on this post have been slightly adjusted and compressed, using Preview on my MacBook Air, so Ted can download them. I probably won't though, after I say this. Obviously the second one is not in focus. Apparently that house is too close for setting the lens focus ring to half-way bewteen the infinity mark and the infinity symbol. I don't even know if the horizon would be focused right at that setting, so I won't use it anymore. For distant stuff I'll just use the setting of just past the infinity mark from now on . . . or maybe right on the infinity mark. I have to look at these test photos some more. I do think I'll stick with f11 though, because I see no improvement by shooting at f8.
