yes I have a MacBook Pro

If it is a Retina MacBook Pro, all of the data ports are USB-C ( Thunderbolt 3 ) ports. They will support USB over USB-C, USB over USB-A (with an adapter), or Thunderbolt 3.

Lacie that seems to have two sections

i think it is a Thnderbolt 3 because I believe I was told the computer worked with the Retina.  I’m out for the day (EST) and will figure out this specific answer tonight.  Thank you.

If the port on the drive is really tiny and crimped, that's a microUSB connector. They are common on portable notebook drives.

it just plugs into one of the tiny ports

I'm guessing that the other end of the LaCie cable has a USB-C connector. Most desktop and laptop computers use USB-A and/or USB-C ports, so the cables included with these drives take care of changing the USB connector type.
