Your comments are of interest to me. I have found personally some older cameras gave me image files that were more of my taste than newer cameras.

There has been some minor improvements over the years but looking back at my S2 photos of 15 years ago there has been little in IQ improvement right up to the SX60.  Of course different sensors and far less zoom range back then.

After some consideration I surmised the cameras with less pixels created smother, creamier images (my description) which I preferred. The rush to add pixels and higher ISO's seems to have had an affect on that. I must be in the minority, but I feel that way about my SX50. I love the images and sometimes feel the SX40 was good enough too.

Still use the SX40/50 and good enough for my use.  The only reason to go with the SX70 is better ergonomics.  The EVF /LCD improvements and software are certainly welcome.  The hot shoe issue is a big negative.

If I need large prints I use my DSLR.

Nice option.  Been there done that.  Perhaps good enough is really good enough for me.
