Image quality: 4K/6k photo vs. 4k video, 16:9 photo

Aloha, All,

I'm trying to figure out the benefits of 4K/6K photo on my G9.  I shoot mostly sports action.

I combine stills and video to make composite videos.  I have my stills set at a 16:9 aspect ratio to speed the workflow and ensure proper framing.  I also generate stills by extracting frames from 4K video (using Avidemux and saving frames as PNG images).

My question:  is the IQ of 4K photo any different (better, worse, other) from the IQ of a frame taken from a 4K video?  They are both generated as JPEGs, I believe?  But maybe the process is different?

I have the same question for 6K video vs. JPEG still images.

I've tried the 4K photo and sometimes the frames seem better, other times not.  And of course there's no way for me to shoot the same action scene under identical conditions, so any results I get are subject to many variables.

Thanks in advance for any information.
