I missed you original past as well. Thanks for doing all that work and comparisons. There is a huge amount of work involved in doing that. I wonder how things might have looked, if you hadn't sharpened the Canon images. It seems that by doing that, you remove the level playing field. The other factor is that the two shots in each case aren't identical. That is something it would be impossible to get without some specialised equipment and maybe not even then. I have tried bird comparisons and its nearly impossible to get exactly the same each time and also very frustrating.

I have been out with a Canon 7 mk2 shooter on a couple of occasions, but he uses the Tamron 150-600mm lens. Sometimes we have had near identical shots and mostly mine are sharper. He gets variable results, so I wouldn't want to put too much emphasis on that aspect, as he gets some sharper ones as well. Operator error is always a factor. At least with your comparison, its all done by the same operator. My point here is that the Sony is matching everything he puts out. I will say that this is in reasonable light. The Canon should win in a lower light comparison.

Below is an image I am particularly pleased with in its details. Would the Canon do better? I can't say for sure, but this one looks pretty good to me.

Once again thanks for the big effort in comparing all those shots.

I've just swum against the tide in this respect, in that I've sold off my RX10-iv and bought a FF Nikon Z6 with 300mm F4 and 1.4x teleconverter for long work. Yesterday I carried this rig about all day at our local zoo - it is soooooooo heavy.
