Slowly beginning to realize (learn) something important...(Quattro / Merrill) ?

Hello:

At one time - I had both the Sigma SD1M (Merrill) and Sigma SD Quattro cameras.

I parted with the SD1M (Merrill) - keeping and using the SD Quattro.

I am now slowly (it appears) to me - (sigh) - learning that without the ability to use the (built-in / provided setting on the SD1M (Merrill): “

AFMA - Auto Focus Micro Adjustment” - the SD Quattro is SEVERELY limited.

Unless - one buys ONLY - Global Vision lenses: (ART / Contemporary / Sports) lens - that ALLOW the benefit of using the Sigma USB Dock to update firmware AND -

MORE Importantly - PERFORM -specifically ‘ Auto Focus - setting up per lens’ focal length (ranges if zoom), the lenses are pretty much ONLY - if even possible - useable on the SD Quattro - with MF (Manual Focus).

In the case of using the Sigma 8-16 (APS-C) lens - it is NOT - either / neither - (especially the older model), capable of ANY further fine tuning adjustments - WHEN - used on the SD Quattro.

What a bummer. Sigh - :-(.

There are very limited available Ultra - Wide Angle (Sigma SA mount) lens solutions.

Yes, one could use the ART version of the 12-24mm.

Seems the SD Quattro line - does certainly have a limit I had not previously considered…

Maybe the SD1M (Merrill) - would have been the ideal camera to kept?

Thoughts? / Comments / Viewpoints are Welcome...

Have a nice day,

Ed
