Nikon DX wideangle zoom for infrared

I currently have a Nikon 12-24mm DX zoom.

It's ok for normal use but is very unsharp around the edges when used with a 720nm IR converted D200. It looks terrible when compared to the results I get with a 18-55mm DX lens.

Has anyone else found this problem?

The lens is listed as poor infrared performer here:-

Can anyone recommend an alternative wideangle DX zoom in the 10->24mm range that gives good edge sharpness without hotspots when using infrared?

I've googled for information and looked at a number of websites containing lists of good & bad infrared performers but found the conclusions to be conflicting. One website suggests a lens is ok but another indicates the opposite.

For example http://www.lunchpail.com/Color_Blind/Lenses.html suggests the Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro IF SD DX is ok for infrared but http://dpanswers.com/content/irphoto_lenses.php lists it a poor performer.

Please only reply if you have direct experience of using a particular lens with an infrared converted DX camera. I am not interested in how a particular lens performs with visible light.
