The importance of exposure equivalency

There is a big emphasis on the exposure triangle and equivalency; While, I’ve understood the impact of each component of the triangle, I didn’t pay enough attention , to the time being ,to the exposure equivalency. (adding to that , that maths is invovled)

When I shoot ,even for a series of photos, I just try to not get an underexposed or overexposed photo, without caring about the exposure equivalency ? Is it bad ;

what’s the purpose, is it to get the same look , mood of a photo series ?
