Comparison Canon 400/4.5 vs Vivitar 400/5.6 manual focus w/teleconverter

Very quick here, not a professional job.

Camera: Canon M5. 1/500 sec, auto ISO

Conditions: test chart from about 30 ft, using Vivitar 2x macro focussing teleconverter, not extended. Both lenses at f8. The distance from the 9 to the 10 is 1/2 inch.

Lens 1 (on the left): Canon 400mm f/4.5. Cost before shipping $175.

Lens 2: Vivitar 400mm f/5.6. Cost before shiping $32.

Conclusions.

1. Both lenses are usable in this configuration, both absolutely and relatively.

2. The Canon is better (sharper) But not enough better to show the Vivitar useless.

3. Both lenses show chromic aberration, but it's not the same.

4. Better value? Unclear.
