DMF, Focus Magnification with Tamron 28-70mm

I'm new to the A7M3 and just received the Tamron 2.8 28-70mm lens (my only lens so far). I'm playing around in the menus while trying to learn my new camera.

While doing so, I could have sworn that while focusing, I could turn the manual focus dial on the lens and the camera would then automatically show me a zoomed 'focus magnification' image for final focus adjustments (DMF). But, now, it's not doing that - or I'm nuts and it never did.
Focus magnification is still turned on in the menu, I'm in wide area focus mode, and I'm set to AF-C. In manual focus or DMF mode all works as expected.

I've tried this in single shot mode, with AF-S, and still no magnification when turning the lens focus manually.
I'm confused. Am I missing something or is there an issue with my lens?
Thanks
