Red AF illuminator: on or off?

With NEX cameras the advice was to keep it off.
But with A6xxx cameras should it be left on?
the usefulness of the red AF illuminator function should be to make AF more accurate in low light conditions. I imagine that over time Sony has eliminated the defects of the NEX series and therefore the function should come in handy, or is it better to keep it off?
