retouching scans of old textured prints

So I have an old photo that I'm trying clean up. It's got this hexagonal dot texture on it that was popular in the 60s for a brief moment.  Any suggestions to removing the texture? Given that it is regular, I was thinking maybe I could reproduce the texture, negate it and then add it back in to cancel it.  However, I haven't a clue how to accomplish that with the tools I have (DxO PL and Affinity Photo).  Maybe with Gimp?  I don't know it very well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Here's the photo in question. You have to zoom in to see the texture.
