The reason to buy an M...
3

I came to my M5 whimsically.  Wanted to try a mirrorless.

But within a month, something happened. I bought a CA 1970 Nikkor 50/f1.4 for less than $50, an $11 adapter, and stuck it on.  I turned to AV mode,  looked into the viewfinder, and focussed.

It all came back.  Like riding a bicycle, maybe.

I first used the 50/1.4 in 1975, on an F2, and I loved it.  But time went on. I moved to AF on Nikon, then drifted further away.  I hadn't used one in 25 years, but it came back. I roamed around playing with the small depth of field.

Manual focused lenses don't have to be good at autofocus, and for stuff that sits still, I'm never going back.  By now I have some more '70s and '80s manual focus lenses, and a couple of new ones.

The best manual focus camera ever.
