Firmware 3.0 Animal eye AF and the Easter Bunny

Happy to report that the new animal eye AF works just fine on the Easter Bunny

Seemed to lock on no matter which way the bunny was facing, even straight on where the eyes are basically just protruding out of each side of the head.

The last one taken was in pretty low light (ISO 2500 @ 1/160) and was still locking.

Wide area AF the small focus square would lock on to the eye everywhere except for the extreme outside edges, which are outside the focus point area.

The small focus area box over the eye was white and followed/tracked the eye during the bunnies movements without a half press or back button af press, then changed to green when the af was engaged – nice.

I also tried the Flexible Spot (L) and Expand Flexible Spot – works the same but you have to be much more precise and have the focus area covering the eye in order to have the eye af lock on to the eye. This means you still need to be ready to move the focus area as the critter moves.

So at least for this scenario the wide area af worked the best for me. All photos with the 1.4 TC.

A very nice update, thank you Sony

Happy Easter
