Contamination inside Fujifilm XF-18-55mm f2.8-f4 OIS - Not dust - was an insect!

Hi all, I've been thouroughly enjoying my Fujifilm XF-18-55mm f2.8-f4 OIS, orginally on my X-E1 and more recently my X-T1. No problems at all until I took a shot yesterday at Devercourt:

Noticed what looked like a huge smudge in the image so thought it was stain/conatmination on the sensor.

I noticed it was more evident when aperture stopped down (F11+) but I wanted this to slow things down as I was planning to set up on tripod and do some long exposures.

So, I took off the lens and inspected the sensor: nothing obvious, but gave it a few puffs with my blower for good measure. Took another shot and still eveindent.

On returning home I did a bit more investigation and noticed that the smudge moved ouside the image as I zoomed in to longer focal lengths. Hek, must be the lens! Tried a couple of other lenses as as expected no problem so back to the lens.

Did some reseach on here and folowed the excellent thread started by sjpowis - Rear element of XF 18-55mm - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3914875.  Ventured into the back of the lens, cleaned the rear element, re-assemble - no different!

It was only then that I happened to look rigth through the lens by eye and zoomed it in and out then noticed a sillouette of what looked like a small insect .. thinking I was imagining this checked again and sure enough it was.  But not at the rear of the lens, I managed then with a magnifying glass to see the littlle fella inside the front actually stuck to the second element in the zoom chamber......I had been inside the back of the lens but no way was I up for full strip down of the lens so I discided to try to dislodge the insect by gently tapping with the palm of my hand I noticed it had moved.....to here!.....

So, I bit more tapping and shaking and its clear now.

But, the insect is still inside the lens and I guess will turn to dust eventually but it is a risk that it will re-appear.  And I the most incovenitent moment I am sure too!  I have no idea how it got in there.  I have heared of dust being sucked into zoom lenses but never an insect!

Fingers crossed I will be able to manage this risk going forward....I will let you know!
