Even closer-up with the 500 PF + 1.4x iii

I was just lucky enough to locate a 500 PF on the shelf in a Melbourne camera shop.

Putting it through its paces on my D500 + a 1.4x  iii on a few of our very small birds that need high shutter speeds to stop motion, I used 1/1250th sec at full aperture (f/8) and auto ISO to allow for the failing light.  The low light was  late in the day at a time when I would never bother to take pictures normally.

AF was slow but it did! Basically testing the limits of what this combination is capable of.

With the Brown Thornbill at 22800 ISO I could only just make out the image in the viewfinder - lots of noise yes, but any picture is always better than no picture.

These are all SOOC JPEGs.

Red-browed Finch at 6400 ISO

Superb Fairy-wren at 14400 ISO

Brown Thornbill at 8000 ISO
