Hi,

I can't really afford the 100-400 and would in any case prefer a longer FL.  I tried several legacy 300mm lenses but found most a bit lacking - mostly because they suffer from CAs on digital sensors.  I should have spent a little more and bought one of the pro glass options first (ED, L or Apo).  I've been using an MF Canon FD 300/4L for a few years and still think it's optically an excellent lens.  I reviewed it here, with images in a reply post.

If I was going to stretch my funds to buy another tele now it would be either be the Nikon 500mm f4P or the Canon FD 500/4.5L.  They're MF but pro grade optics.  They come up on e-Bay for around $1200-1500.  Still cheaper than a 100-400 here in Oz.  No OIS though......
