Soft Focus

So I just got back from a trip to Sedona and was excited to look at the pics I had taken. I have a original 7D and was using my 17-40 Canon L lens. While some of the shots I had taken seemed somewhat ok most of them have a very soft focus. I might be expecting to much from the lens i am using to expect sharp focus on mountains that far away but I thought using F11 would give me a even focus throughout the picture. I have attached one that came out not bad but still not what I expected. Settings on the camera were AV, F8, 332 shutter, ISO 160, single point AF, back button focus. 29MM zoom.  Evaluative metering. I just saved the RAW image as a jpeg with no modifications for the review.

F11,160 ISO,332 shutter,29mm

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, wish I had checked pics on site before leaving the area.
