The only thing you lose going to the R is a memory card slot. If having one slot is okay, then the R is a great choice. While I'm not sure about the Sigma lens working with the adapter, it is a fact that the EF lenses work seamlessly with the R.

I went from the III to the IV and found that it is a better camera all 'round. The R seems to be a little better than the IV when it comes to focusing speed and accuracy. But I'm one of those sticks in the mud that won't go without two card slots. I don't do many paid shoots anymore, but when I do, I want that bit of extra insurance that the second card gives.

I would ask that anyone replying please don't ruin this thread by arguing about one vs two card slots.  I only brought it up so that the OP wouldn't ask me why I don't have the R instead of the IV since I mentioned that the R focuses better than the IV.
