Any other similar experience and comment? Thank you
I sold my 7DII once I realized my E-M1II could do just as good a job shooting soccer, which I do a lot of. I actually like the photos out of my Olympus better than I ever did out of the Canon. I shoot with the Olympus 40-150 f/2.8.
This is my personal experience only and not suggesting all 7DII owners ditch theirs for the Olympus. I do obviously struggle with games at night, but also have a 6D plus an EF 70-200 if I really want to shoot any games at night. Granted, the autofocus of the 6D is nowhere near the Olympus, so I have to be selected
YMMV.
That was a goal for me when I bought the M1ii, but just haven’t got to the point where I can give up my 7Dii yet... partly because of the reach of the 100-400ii.
Can I ask how you’ve set up your M1ii for soccer... AF points, AF sensitivity and so on.
Thanks!
Yeah, the 100-400 would be hard to give up, so I'm with you. I just had a plain old 70-200, which is easily replicated by the Olympus 40-150 in reach.
I have a custom setting for soccer, C-AF, shutter speed of 1/1000 (or a little higher if conditions allow), auto-ISO. As far as AF points, I use the 5 center points. This works well for me...any larger and I occasionally find myself tracking a player I don't want (more my fault than the camera's if I'm not paying super-close attention).
Sensitivity is set to +0. I haven't played with the sensitivity too much, as I've only been shooting soccer with my E-M1 ii for a couple months, but have found that if a shot is not in focus, it's usually my fault. I've been very pleased with the number of in-focus, and extremely sharply focused photos I'm able to take. If I shoot 500-700 shots at a game, I find that I'll end up with only about a dozen (frequently less) shots out of focus. Yeah, it's that good, hence my easy decision to part with my 7DII
