I used the original Rebel (300D) when released and then the 30D. Then for several years I switched to Sony RX100m2 for portability as I hike, travel and backpack a lot. But I missed the OVF, instant on of a DSLR and lens options. After using 30D again for a while which I loved vs. the compact I decided on another DSLR
I had been debating between 6D2 and 80D with strong preference to the 6D2. Time to go full frame as I am a wide angle person.
Then I realized I could get an SL2 body for $375. The main driver was the low weight when coupled with the 10-18. I got that lens too.
80D+10-18mm = 790g ($1216)
6D2+16-35mm f4 = 1380g ($2300)
200D+10-18mm = 639g which is half the weight at 1.5lbs less that 6D2. ($593)
If true the sensor is as good as the one in the 80D, then my main concerns are around usability, primarily lacking the extras control wheel and focus select joystick nub.
I never shoot sports and rarely action, mainly hiker in action shots, nothing terrible fast so I thought I can live with the slower AF.
The LCD is nice to have, but I strongly prefer OVF. I have bad eyesight and can not read LCD in bright light or hold camera steady. That is one of the reasons I am moving away from compact like RX100. Using the OVF on 30D after years of LCD on RX100 was a pleasure.
I tend to use A or T mode with EC. I also found the 30D focus point selector valuable when using Sigma 30/1.4 as focus and recompose with shallow DOF doesn't work well. I'll have to figure that out, but the 80D and 6D2 don't have the nub anymore either.
Anyway it should be here next week. I'll let y'all know how it compares to 30D. If I end up not liking it my son and wife will.
