Re: Replace old P & S with new one for snorkeling?

Hi Carin

I have a TG-5 which I like(d).  I have had it for about 1.5 years and 4 weeks ago I took it snorkling on Great Barrier.  First time underwater - and got decent shots.  Probably need to learn about underwater photography and cant blame camera ;-).  What got me really annoyed was that my flash stopped working...only noticed after 2 weeks.

Turned out to be waterdamage to the motherboard and flash.  Now I KNOW  I had checked everythng was clean and closed before going in the water.  I was in the water for about 2 hours .  The manual says " water resistant up to 15 m for 1 hour".  I sort of imagined the pressure at 15 m would make a difference to the time.  It also says "Replace all seals every year".  Now that is a big ask I think.

The repair is costing me the same as an underwater housing ...but I never imagined I needed a special housing for an underwater camera for a 2 hr surface snorkel.

Don't know if I got a lemon...or the 1 hr in the water and replacement seals every year is what caused it.

Worth considering before buying for underwater use I think.
