Anyone have any experience with this exact combo? I'm looking to pick up a new camera for just general purpose, take everywhere kind of photos with a small footprint.

I have got this combo. It is small enough to sit nicely on a neck strap under my jacket. For a two lens kit I pair it up with a 50/1.7 Pentax.

I have a 50 1.7 pentax, MF, somewhere, need to get an adapter and try it!

I've seen a lot of the negative reviews on the XT100's AF performance, but I see that quite a few firmware updates have been issued so I wonder if peoples complaints have been addressed?

I often get shots with a face detected yet the focus is on the background. The focusing is a bit noisy with the xf27 but it is not slow at all compared say to the 15-45 zoom. They are about the same.

15-45 is not slow focusing, on the contrary, its quite fast and responsive.

I'm sure most of my use will be single point AF in AF-S with Av priority,

That's how I shoot too. But when I switch to face detection for shooting kids running around, I get about 30% of shots with missed focus.

That's not bad actually, 70$ %hit rate!
