Has Nikon boxed itself in?

My first "real" camera was a Nikon SLR, the Nikkormat FTN.  My first "real" digital camera was a Nikon camera, the Coolpix 995.

One does wonder if Nikon can prosper with a limited product range (APS-C and Full Frame, OVF and now some EVF.), albeit being the choice between Canon and itself of professional working photographers.

Are the other OEMs just fumbling around.

1" sensor: Canon, Sony and Panasonic all have compelling and successful products.  Nikon abandoned 1" sensor.

Short flange APS-C: Canon, Sony and Fuji (?) all have compelling products.  Where is a Nikon short flange APS-C camera?

Canon, of course, is a force onto itself, offering full frame, APS-C, along with Panasonic some of the last in my mind compact consumer cameras, a successful range of camcorders, printers, copiers, etc.
