Z6 viewfinder is way too dark in a studio setting

The issue I find in studio is when I am using a generic (non-ttl) trigger and the studio flashes set to yield a higher depth of field exposure of say F16 at ISO100.

So I set the camera to F16, ISO 100 1/180 and even in a reasonably bright studio the viewfinder is sooooo dark, I can't easily compose my image or focus.
Have no idea how to make the viewfinder brightness independent of the camera settings.
With my D600 or D750 the viewfinder never gets darker, unless I enable depth of field preview.

Seems the Z6 viewfinder only behaves the way I want, is when I put a Nikon compatible TTL enabled flash on the hotshoe. Then it stays bright. It seems silly to have to put a SB900 on the camera and use that in Manual 1/128 power to trigger my studio strobes in slave mode.
