AF-S 18-35 f3.5-4.5G - Edges are Soft?

Hi guys,

I had a chance to buy test a AF-S 18-35mm on my D750 today before my travel. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the lens' hood mount was not centered. I am not sure what did the owner do to the lens before but I requested for a refund, although the optics were clean and looked lightly used.

I did some test shots around the street of Singapore.

Came home and realized that the edges are soft/blurry, however, the center sharpness is good.

I am not sure whether this copy is a lemon or just the characteristic of this lens.

Below are the shots at f5.6 (known to be the optimum aperture for this lens).

If you have one, please share with me your experiences with this lens. How do you deal with soft/blurry edges/corner for your landscape.

If this is the characteristic of the lens, I might stick with my prime AF-S 24mm f1.8G
