Sometimes, rules are meant to be broken.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I would love your feedback on this...

But I remember when I started photography, I was obsessed with keeping true to rule of thirds...it was a great learning tool.

However....Ten years later, as I continue to develop my own style, true to myself, I find myself straying away from the rules more often than I stick to them. I worry less about the rules, and more about how this particular subject would look composed. This penguin is about as centered as possible, but I feel it portrays a mood consistent with solitude. This penguin remained fixed in this position for as long as I was around, at least three hours. I felt like giving the penguin negative space in front, it would insinuate movement, which is what we generally try to do with ROT and negative space...

However, this for me was a frozen in time moment, and centering the subject gave it a more emotional backstory.

Thoughts?
