I haven't spent too much time analyzing your comparison images, but my first reaction is that the difference between the lenses is very small. Yes I can see some slight differences in the bokeh, but overall it isn't like there is a huge difference.

Do you agree, or have I not studied the images closely enough?

Maybe you studied them too closely. The crops I showed at the end hide the nervous bokeh of the 35L. I did not want to post the whole pictures though.

Fair point Reading further through this thread I realize that you think that the Mark II is much better than the original version. I will have to look more at the pictures when I get home to see if I can follow your conclusion. In any case: You taking the time to post these comparison shots is much appreciated, so thank you
