SX70 HS - Prunella modularis at 1764mm telephoto

Now going beyond optical zoom. Below you can see a Dunnock, European Robin-sized passerine that I captured at 1764mm (84x magnif.), handheld. Details got more on the soft side, but I believe the image still qualifies as a decent documentary shot considering the huge zoom applied.

Conclusion: "Smart zoom", as named by Canon, stretching from 66-130x magnif. can be (conditionally) usable in good light (at low ISO).
