Are any of the other options better, or is there something I haven’t thought of? The G7XII (or III) is generally a similar size/price to M6 but includes a zoom/IS. Where are the 1” sensors on the DSLR<->smartphone spectrum? I’ve seen different opinions. Should I consider Sony/Fuji?

Thanks to literally anyone who read this far, it was much longer than I intended.

Just came across this - first hope you get well! How about a Sony RX1R II if you don't mind a fixed lens? Image quality is excellent and they can be had for around the $2,000 price point - a bit of a stretch on your price range but not too much. It comes with a full frame sensor and a very well regarded lens attached to it.

I have the Canon M100 + 22mm f2 as a second camera to my main Sony camera. It's very nice but only if you use it in auto mode, which is how I mostly use it - controlling aperture through the touch screen is cumbersome compared to dials. I've considered upgrading to the M6 many times, which is why I'm browsing the EOS M forum but not sure I want to invest in a second system.

Also, as much as I love Sony full frame, I would avoid Sony APS-C. There just aren't any good compact lenses - even the top end "Sony Zeiss" ones aren't that great. The Sigma lenses look nice but are quite big for APS-C.
