Front range birds

I went looking for mountain blue birds today which are migrating across Denver to the mountains - but no luck. I did get to see a bird I hadn't seen before - a horned grebe.

All with the 6500 & 70-300G.

A red-tailed hawk

A horned grebe in non-breeding colors. Highly cropped. Prior to resizing, the crop was 1740 x 1159

Love the eyes. This is a 100% crop. 1367 x 912. I overdid the sharpening a bit.

A killdeer

I did everything right, I thought. I had the camera on AF-C, zone, subject was in the zone, OSS was Off, contrast against the background is good. But I probably didn't do the finger jitterbug on the shutter button often enough to nail the focus. Either that or I didn't pan smoothly.A northern harrier going after something in the grass. It is a treat (for the observer, not the prey) to see these birds hunting.

Finally nailed the focus.
