Printing a book

Hi

I hope it's ok to ask about this... and sorry if I'm not using the correct terms... English is my second language.

I'm going to print a photography book. First I'm doing one copy as a trial and then I'll see.

Already decided on A4 size, each photo is A3 double spread. I understand that a sewn (is that the right word?) book opens much better than a glued book so that's what I'll go with. Here's my question...

Looking at some sewn books, they are made from "blocks" of a few pages each. With the exception of middle pages, each page basically has two half photos.

I started learning InDesign and that's what we'll use, but the software doesn't "know" where the parts are going to be. I don't know either yet. I'm using a place for printing and a different place for binding/sewing (no place does both).

Just looking for general advice about this before I waste a lot of time.

Thanks!
