Trying to decide on the RP

Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm a hobbyist photographer and just recently sold my m43 gear (OM-D EM10 + 3 lenses) and decided to get into FF as my next system.

I am debating between the EOS RP and the Sony A73. I know these are technically in different leagues, but I'm able to get the A73 at essentially the same price as RP (family discount). I've tried both cameras and while the A73 is without a doubt a fantastic camera, for some reason I feel myself being pulled towards the RP.

When trying the RP, the ergonomics, the flippy screen, the ease of use just seem so much better to me and since I'm never doing all-day shoots or 4K video, the battery life and 4K crop don't really impact me.

Another reason is the RF glass - I think the true potential of the R series in the new glass. We're on the ground floor of what's likely going to be Canon's next great mount.

The reason I'm posting here is to ask about a few items, hoping people with an RP can chime in:

  1. AF Tracking. How is it with the RP? We have two dogs and one of the things I enjoy is taking pictures of them. As a hobbyist, I had a lot of difficulty getting focus on the dogs with the EM10 when they're zipping around the yard/dog park, and the 2fps of the RP worries me here.
  2. Astrophotography. One thing I want to get into is astrophotography - it interests me greatly. How is the RP as an astro body (with the correct lens of course)?
  3. Stablization: Again no IBIS worries me with the RP - I chose the EM10 many years ago due to its IBIS. I have a medical condition that requires me to take medication that causes micro-shakes. The EM10 handled this fine. How will this be with the RP?
  4. Crop-mode: Does the RP have Crop mode/APSC mode to get a bit extra reach when you need it (similar to the Sony)
  5. Low-light: How'd the RP be with the RF 35mm IS Macro in low-light, again keeping into consideration no IBIS?

If I got the RP, I'd see this as a temporary body for a few years until the R mark2 or RP mark2 came out which hopefully will have added IBIS/better fps/tracking/etc.

Cheers all,
