Re: How did you pick the name for your photography business?

I went back to my own name later, but when I was working for a large corporation needed a business name.

I was working on a business plan. While driving down the interstate something on the horizon brought to mind a couple of words from my plan -- and that became the business name. It worked pretty well, but I dropped it after I retired from my corporate job.

Before I committed I did an internet search and a domain search for my planned name and close variations. I registered my name as a .com and also every version of the domain I thought I might use or that a prospective client might put in by accident.

I should have done at least a state trademark, but wasn't smart enough back then. And a local or state DBA.

I have an unusual name, which helps in some ways but can be a handicap. For internet use I registered my name and variations as a .com way back in the mid-90s so that was no problem.
