5 months of the Z7: Waiting on AFC fixes - May Firmware
1

Based on static wildlife subjects, I agree with Steve Mattheis that Nikon has major & urgent work to fix its Z AFC. see Nikon Z7 - My Thoughts After Five Months Of Use...

AF-C is Too erratic. This is similarly my experience shooting the Z7 almost every day, since early October. Excluding challenges of BIF, grabbing AF-C on static subjects against background too often fails.

This problem is probably compounded by the lack of Closest-focus-priority in the Z7:

While Thom is correct on ability of the photographer - as a Big Factor - all the DSLRs I have experience on wildlife - Df, D750. D500, and D850 especially, are a long way ahead in grabbing sharp focus on a stationary subject. This applies not only to challenges in clutter but too often the camera grabs on some bit of the background

This magnifies expectations of the Z Firmware update promised in May. Let's hope they have prioritized these fixes!
