Great picture of the firefighter giving oxygen to the dog!
Yeah, I heard great things about the 16-35 F2.8 version 2. A few things though that made my decision:
- way out of my budget as I was buying used and determined not to really spend too much more than the trade in value of the lenses I was swapping out.
- As I dabble a little bit more in video, the IS for handheld stuff was really attractive.
- Common 77mm filter thread across my 16-35, 24-105 and 100-400.
- Low light/shallow DoF needs can be partially compensated by my Sigma 20mm f1.4 when really required.
Thank you! That was lucky--it was a typical boring apartment fire and I was getting ready to leave when I spotted the fireman carrying the dog. The wide angle let me get super close so I wasn't blocked by the the TV guys.
I think you meant to write 16-35 f/2.8 version 3 above; version 2 was O.K., but like version 1 had real problems with edge sharpness unless stopped down to f/5.6 or f/8.
You're right--IS is quite useful for video. I also own the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II and the IS is valuable for run and gun shooting.
Thanks. Yes, indeed I did mean version III.
