McCurry risked this girl’s life and he is fortunate that things worked out for her as it could have easily ended up going the other way.

The girls life was already on the line. Her parents were killed in a bombing. She crossed the Afghan mountains in the winter with her siblings while bombs were falling around her.

McCurry took a picture of her when she was in school at the refugee camp.

She never saw the photo for 17 years until McCurry brought it to her.
