My question is this: When cleaning a Pentax sensor with something like a Visible Dust swab, are there any pitfalls to be avoided? Will this cause any problems with the IBIS system?

I have no experience with Visible Dust, but you should take a look at Pentax' own O-ICK1 (affectionately called "the lollipop"). That's a stick with a sticky (hmm...) material to basically pick up the dust from the sensor. Probably the safest system there is.

The rule is: don't press hard. There might be some incompatible cleaning solutions (what I like about the O-ICK1 is that it's not using any, and there isn't any rubbing against the sensor's surface)

Good advice from Alex, I have used the O-ICK1 kit for years and it will safely (don't press harder with lollipop than you would to 1/2 press the camera shutter button as instructions state) remove all but the most baked on nasties.

All the UK official Pentax photographic shops sell it, other brand users use it too as it has a good reputation.

Make sure you use it in a dust free room, a bathroom after a shower is run full of condensation traps and brings down airborne dust. Do this after a few hours and the 'steam' has settled.
