I've always just blown dust off the sensor with canned gas. The mewling kittens get pretty worked up and start howling like a queen in heat on a catnip high, but I've not ever had a problem, and I don't expect to ever have one by doing this.

Just use some common sense and don't turn the can upside down and shoot liquid propellent into your camera.

Note, for fun, I did this very thing to an *istD a couple of years ago. There were no ill effects on the camera after the frost melted.
