I use G9 and face/eye detect AF is awesome - even blind point and shoot achieves better results than standard AF (not to mention manual focus). I did not think this feature will be useful at all, but I rely on it now in social settings (or differently said, it is a great crutch for my lack of focusing skills in such moments).

Also had a chance to test this feature with Sony A7 and it was a confusing experience. Face detection in similar scenery was unreliable, even if a face was detected and outlined the AF locked elsewhere or could not keep up focusing on the person - not reliable, and thus not impressive at all.  Hopefully Sony improved it in the later models (A7 ii and iii).

Can't comment on C-AF, I don't use it.
