Re: Oculus Rift and HMD is worth a look

I got into 3d way back with film also.

Ditto.  Still have 4 RBT cameras with wonderful optics.  35mm stereo slides in a good handheld viewer are amazing.  Never did medium format 3D slides myself, but have seen plenty -- absolutely jaw dropping image quality;  the gold standard for s3D so far.

The best so far is the Oculus Rift.

Check out the CINERA if you can.  The Oculus Rift is great for VR, but the CINERA comes closest to 35mm slides or better in a good handheld viewer.

I have a 3d tv and never use 3d on it, so I understand, but I do use it on the HMD.

I'm surprised.  I have an LG 3D OLED set and I love it.  Great way to share s3D images with friends, rather than passing around a handheld viewer.  You could also use it for all the things your using your 3D monitor for as well.

Lots of nice old film pics from the group. It seems so strange seeing color photos from the 50s in 3d. Nice.

I love the old Stereo Realist slides and have a number of friends that collect them.  So long as the slides and viewer stay together, there is the potential to be saved and shared for generations.  Kodachrome retains its image really well if stored properly.  I wonder about the longevity of my digital images.  It easy for digital to just disappear or be stored in a physical format that is no longer used.  Look at how quickly optical discs are starting to disappear from new computers.
