Oculus Rift and HMD is worth a look

I got into 3d way back with film also.  Had all the viewmasters and the stereo realist camera.  I built many synchronized 3d 35mm film cameras.  Even today, the best still images I have are the full frame 35mm slides in a custom viewer.  The viewmaster was this little tiny negative.  Its incredible when you have a full slide for each eye.

I followed that into digital cameras, and built more digital synced cameras.  I use 3dvision from Nvidia to watch 3d on a monitor and that works great.  I still have the Asus 27 inch 3d display that I highly recommend.

The best so far is the Oculus Rift.  The resolution leaves a little to be desired, but new models are getting better rapidly.  The nice thing is, I can shoot video in 3d.  And not just video like a square in front of you, video that covers your field of view.  Its better than anything like a view master even with the Oculus Rift, but you really need to get a player that plays 3d right.  Right now, Whirligig is about the only good one, and it does everything.  The VR180 format is very new, and only a couple new cameras can shoot decent video.

The Oculus Go is said to have better resolution and does not require an entire computer.  The Oculus Quest should be coming out soon with much more tech in it.  So, overall, if you really get the right hardware and find video that someone really shot right, the digital versions of the 3d are better now I think,  but the fad does come and go.  Right now, its gone.  No new tvs do 3d at all.  I can sort of see why.  I have a 3d tv and never use 3d on it, so I understand, but I do use it on the HMD.

Lots of nice old film pics from the group.  It seems so strange seeing color photos from the 50s in 3d.  Nice.
