Shooting Macros With The M5 - What Am I Doing Wrong

I had stopped using my EF/EF-S lenses with my M3 because they did not perform well. Lots of hunting and many times they would not focus.

Put my 100mm EF 2.8 Macro lens on the M5 yesterday. Turned off the continuous autofocus so the lens would not go crazy. It did work, much better than it ever did on my M/M3.  The 100mm is very crisp and usually does not have a problem in my experience.

Still had some issues focusing though. The large focus box made it hard to pinpoint focus. When I shrank the focus point it had a lot of difficulty focusing. It appeared that it liked to focus on vertical lines but horizontal lines? Forget it. Unless there was a lot of contrast it would not focus at all.

The lens would still bounce around focusing though even with the continuous focusing turned off. Would bounce back and forth sometimes trying to focus.

I thought something was wrong with the lens so I put it on my DSLR. It was fine, no bouncing around. Most of the time even in low light it would focus immediately.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just the M5?
