OIS on the 16-59 S is a total disappointment. It does not function properly on the majority of copies.
Is the OIS a total disappointment because it takes on average 1 min to warm up (more or less depending on the copy)? Or did it have some other issue?
Yes, more than a minute and even then it can be sketchy. Total let down to have a design or manufacturing flaw on an otherwise beautiful lens.
You must be really unlucky, there are many of us with different experiences, that is one of the reason that so many people keep the "legend" alive, after so many years.
Generally I’m pretty lucky, but this could be an exception. I’m certainly not here to bash Samsung NX as I love it. But to me the 16-50 S is a let down in this specific regard. In fact the OIS on the lowly 16-50 PZ works better in my samples. As pointed out by others and myself, it is still a fantastic lens. For those with no OIS issues, they have a phenomenal lens. I don’t like things that don’t work properly and struggle to get past them in my head. That’s my issue I understand. Turn off the OIS and move on would work fine for most people.
haha! wish you all the luck. Cameras are not even at my top 10 of importance - in life - and I am a pro video/photo-grapher!
I am very happy with my copy, it takes 10-15 second to warm up, and that is the case with 2 other S lenses I have tested, and the OIS is amazing for video so far, but I too, am considering my options for my next major upgrade (that means 1-3 bodies and 5-7 lenses).
