It’s not that the mft primes are bad it’s that the smaller Fuji primes are better and at the very top Fuji matches best m43 more or less (primes)

basically there isn’t really an advantage in lenses for m43 when you take into account how many overlaps and copies are in mft and how many are that you can scratch as being “not as good as” Both have good lens selection

Just smear some grease over your m43 lenses and you can get them up to the same level as Fuji's f2 primes.

Sure. Seems like you haven't tried them. It's almost the equivalent of an attempt of a personal attack but to the other brand you don't favor

100% crop of XF35 F2.0 @ F2.0. From Raw-Silky Pix.

Appreciate the example image. No personal attacks warranted.

Kudos

For me, that waxy skin look and smeared detail around the eyelashes and corners of the eye is the main reason I keep clear of fuji x-trans.

Keep in mind I used Silky Pix. This is not an issue with Iridient of Capture One right now, which now has a free Fuji endorsed version.

I've heard some software is better at demosaicing x-trans than others. My world (including partners/teaching) is Adobe-centric so x-trans has never really been an option.

Their Bayer 24MP sensors are great - no reason to continue with the x-trans in my opinion. Thankfully their MF sensors are Bayer and I love they the results they produce.

I don't see difficulty in getting good detail from the PL25/1.4 or mZD 25/1.2 assuming you can keep the ISO reasonably low.

It's not that those lenses don't have detail. I mean the PL25 F1.4. It's that it's not as detailed. The example of the girl in the bathtub shows my case- doesn't really compare imho to the crop I posted.

I agree, I can't make out much in your example. The picture of the girl in the bathtub is in far less light than your outdoor picture. Taken at ISO 640 1/60th sec on the old EM5 and yet I can clearly make out eye-lashes, blood-vessels in the eye. I can't see any of that in your pic.

As for the mZD 25/1.2 lens- sure, that's a Pro expensive lens. Much more expensive than the Fuji XF35 F1.4 and as good as I find the Fuji I would expect the Olympus to be probably capable of more detail. But Fuji also has more expensive primes that give more detail.

The XF35/1.4 is the most expensive 50mm FOV Fuji offers. Not sure what else you're referring to. As for detail, I've never found the 1.4 primes to resolve as much as the f/2 primes wide open. I hope Fuji updates the 1.4 primes soon and with modern AF.

I like the portraits and my point was never that you can't do nice portraits with m43rds lenses. It's my main system right now ;-). My point was that Fuji lenses are pretty darn good and on average, imho, better than the whole multiple copies of same ranges you see around in m43rds. But there's def. good m43rds lenses.

By the way if you are curious- if you can ever handle the Panasonic Leica F1.4 25mm *original* 4/3rds with an adapter, give it a try. You know like the Nocticron is darn good in m43rds, that lens is like that for 25mm. The PL 25mm F1.4 version we got it's not like that.

I shot the original 4/3 PL 25 on the E-1 and E-30. I liked it a lot. After shooting with the mZD 25/1.2, I have little interest in other 25mm primes in mFT system. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. Originally purchased for video work on the GH5 - all weather-sealed package and durable. The manual focus clutch and CA resistance wide open made it a clear winner over my PL 25/1.4 which now resides in our camera club "shared" cabinet.
