Re: LVF2

Strange things happen. Just tried GX1 with the mentioned old kit lens, maybe sell it. Then a friend selling film cameras got some stuff from a shop moving to another place. And one LVF2! Tried it, it's sharp but kind of bluish and white-out, contrast wrong, like some kind of fog or haze. Something I got to adjust? Fault?

Might I confirmed with you that you were talking about GX1, LVF2 and 14~42 Mk-II?

First of all, how lvf2 performs should be independent from the lens.

3 factors should be considered.

  1. lvf2 is only a tool to display the simulated live view image from the sensor data only. What you see might actually be a result of your setting.
  2. Similar to the evf of all other Pannys, evf and LCD has independent set of "LCD Display" setting (page 2 of Setup Menu of GX1) for the brightness, saturation and color effect. Its previous owner, might have messed up the setting.
  3. Might suggest that lvf2 is at its end of life having the display unit failure problem developed.

Bluish might be a result of the white balance of that particular scene. Might try to adjust WB to see the result.

Not sure the "white out". Might you have over exposed the image and so you see a white wash scene because too much +ev in exposure compensation be used?

Contrast of lvf2 is not good as the integrated evf of GX7. More flat IMHO. It is more difficult for me, upon the contrast condition of the live view simulated image in lvf2, to judge the actual contrast condition of the shot to be taken. The evf of GX7 can do a better job on this department. Back to the days of using GX1, I need to read the histogram a lot more for info on saturation and contrast.

When use evf (Lvf2 need to hit the button), that menu option will set the evf. When use LCD, it will change the LCD. But usually I do not recommend to adjust it because I trust the default setting should be the best to show live view. If we change it, we might have a wrong interpretation on what live view telling us and lead to wrong setting.

Haze, might there is actually condensation on the glasses in front of the LCD display unit inside the lvf2? Could a hot air hairdryer work?

And what is market price?

Lvf2 might still be quite expensive despite of its age. I saw a few lvf2 in used market that were asking for US$150+ easily. Due to such external evf is limited to use on GX1 only and basically GX1 is a very outdated model having not much resale value, not worth to buy lvf2 IMHO. Double the usual asking price of lvf2, might enough to buy a brand new GX7...

Must ask what he paid for all (Olympus lens not mft and Sony video camera without battery....) I can use it as it is, but hope something can be done about the quality.
