Ok I know feature wise the GX85 has a few things the GX8 hasn't got, but really the GX8 is something else, the build quality and feel is in another league, the GX85 feels insubstantial in terms of size (which I know most will prefer) and ergonomics imho, but the GX8 just 'sits' better. the buttons have a completely different feel in the way they move. I got caught in some inclement weather that came up quite unexpectedly, luckily I could cover the GX85 with my jacket an get out of there, problem was I would have liked to carry on with my walk and get a few 'dreary' shots, but couldn't.

Decided right there I need to get back to weather sealed (had a GH4 and that thing was a tank, went anywhere in any weather), but after upgrading that to the D500 for BIF etc, I needed a smaller carry around camera so got the GX85, and its been awesome, but twice over the last month I got caught with it in bad weather. So decided on the GX8, got it for an incredible price here in South Africa, it was like a $1000 when it launched here but got it for $600, which is a great price imho.

Saw a review which stated the GX8's AF is slightly quicker (for me I see no difference) both are very fast, but the one thing where the GX8 is better is AF tracking, not sure if its got a different set of algorithms etc. but its noticeably better.

Ok, seriously, the GX85 is great to BUT I have large hands and the GX85 just felt a bit too small, but the GX8 is just better for me.

I must state that I do no video so the video benefits of the GX85 don't bother me, in the last 4 years I've never used my cameras for any video.

Well that does make sense. And kudos on getting one for a great price.

yip the price was very good!

The GX8 was the flagship photo camera of Panasonic for many years. Its layout, sensor, burst rate, and weather sealing was geared for professional photo use.

The GX85 on the other hand was targeting the masses, not so much the pros. GX85 is more a gateway drug

hehe

into MFT much like the LX00 was 3 years before it. A entrey level Lumix if you will... Nevertheless, the GX85 has a huge amount of features for photo and video with amazing image quality that you can't find at that price point.

yip true.
